Side quests
A world to track my summits
SB6K World
An interactive 3D world built around the South Beyond 6000k challenge. Explore 40 summits across six ranges of the Southern Appalachians, walk through the landscape, and see your progress take shape as you climb. A summit log, interactive map, and real hiking data connect the virtual world to the miles and elevation gained out on the trail.
Inspiration
Why create this?
I wanted to make a hiking challenge feel like a world you could explore, not just a checklist of peaks and numbers. The South Beyond 6000k challenge is about getting out into the mountains, discovering new places, and steadily working toward a goal. I built SB6K World to bring that journey to life in a different way.
Instead of simply marking a summit complete, you can walk toward it, find your bearings, inspect peaks, and watch your progress accumulate across the landscape. Real hikes add another layer, turning miles walked and feet climbed into part of the experience. It’s my playful way to make a long-term outdoor goal feel tangible.
